Week of November 25th

Happy Thanksgiving First Grade Families!
This week is short and sweet and we have earned the privilege to dress in denim and solid colors on Tuesday! Due to the short week we will be wrapping our various units, and in place of Spalding we will be playing phonogram bingo. The long weekend will be R&R and there will be no homework.

We greatly appreciate your flexibility regarding the rescheduling of the field trip. We also hope your animal projects are coming along well. If you have not already done so please remember that the question sheet and reference need to be turned in.

We are so grateful for your children and the opportunity to work alongside you this year. We hope you all have a safe and restful weekend.

Poem: Thanksgiving day
By: Lydia Maria Child

Over the river, and through the wood,
To Grandfather's house we go;
the horse knows the way to carry the sleigh
through the white and drifted snow.

Over the river, and through the wood-
oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes and bites the nose
as over the ground we go.

Over the river, and through the wood,
to have a first-rate play.
Hear the bells ring, "Ting-a-ling-ding!",
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day!

We will continue reading and analyzing the various story elements of fairy tales. We will read Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel. We will begin reading Frog and Toad as well. If you have not already sent this series to school with your child please do so by this Friday. We have extra copies so please reach out if you need help.

This week we will test on our Numbers to 20 unit. Our next unit is Shapes. We will recognize and name the four basic shapes, understand closed shapes, corners and sides and learn how to sort and classify objects.

We would like to thank each of you who donated supplies and time, created outfits and supported this year's Read-A-Thon and Literacy Day. We could not have done it without you.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week ahead,
