Week of September 23rd

First grade families,
Thank you so much for partnering with us these past few months as we have gotten to know you and your child. We appreciate the time spent working with your child at home and the hours and supplies that you have donated here at school. We have just two weeks left in the quarter before Fall Break. Please take note of the following dates:
September 27th
Read-A-Thon begins
Literacy Night
Spirit Wear

September 30th-October 4th
Book Fair

October 7th-October 11th
Fall Break

October 14th-16th
Parent/teacher conferences (students return to school Wednesday October 16th)

AND in curriculum this week we will begin reading Cinderella stories from all over the world. In science we delve deeper into habitats and learn about the desert and the adaptations that plants and animals have made to survive in this unique climate. In history we learn about how pyramids were made and used, and the reason the dead were mummified in ancient Egypt. In math we continue with subtraction memorizing facts and reviewing the different strategies to solve equations. We also will compare two equations to determine if they are equal or not.

And last, but not least our Spalding Words:
low, soft, stands, stand, yard, bring, tell, five, ball, law
ask, just, way, get, home, much, call, long, love, then
house, year, to, I, as, send, alone, lone, one, has

That's all folks! Wishing you a happy and healthy week ahead,
Your First Grade Team
